Frequently Asked Questions

01How and when do I get paid?

If you work in week one you are paid the following Friday, in week two. You are paid each Friday, always a week after the week worked, either by direct deposit or by cheque.

02How many hours will I be working?

It depends on the assignment and the company. Their needs vary, and it is usually around 40 hours per week.

03Do I have to come to the office to register?

Registration can be done online, but you will be required to come to the office for an in-person interview and to bring the required forms of ID.

04Is there a screening process?

You need two pieces of government-issued photo ID, your valid social insurance number, and a voided cheque or a letter from your bank. Office positions may require a current resume and software proficiency testing in Excel, Outlook and Word; labour positions may require an employment background check, drug screening and a criminal record check where applicable.

05Why should I use Career1 to find a position?

Career1 gives you access to opportunities you would not normally have, and helps you get your foot in the door through its connections with businesses that have open positions.

06What happens if I have to call in sick?

Notify the office at least two hours before the start of your shift and we will notify the company. Employees with poor attendance records may not be assigned in the future.

07Can I send a friend in my place if I cannot work?

No. You cannot arrange your own replacement - all absences must be reported to the recruiter, who will make the adjustments.

08What should I do if I have to leave an assignment?

Give a couple of days' notice so a replacement can be provided to the client, and call the office so they can help with your concerns.

09Can a temporary assignment become a permanent job?

Yes. Clients hire temporary workers partly to test skills and make more informed hiring decisions, so working hard, attending regularly and being punctual can turn a temporary position into a permanent one.

10Does Career1 offer overtime?

Yes. Overtime is paid after more than 40 hours in a week, at 1.5 times your pay rate.

11Is transportation provided?

No. Employees are expected to be responsible for their own transportation to the workplace.

12I registered a year ago. Why do I have to register again?

The database is updated every six months, and revisiting allows a personal interview with a recruiter so you can be placed in the right position.

13Is there an incentive or bonus programme?

There is a small incentive for referrals where the referral is successfully assigned, and additional bonuses for good attendance and work habits.
