What makes a good deal description?

State the conditions plainly: who, when, what is excluded, and when it ends.

The description is where every misunderstanding is prevented. Cover:

  • Who it applies to — new customers, everyone, members.
  • When it is valid — days, times, dates.
  • What is excluded — set menus, sale items, other offers.
  • Whether it can be combined with anything else.
  • When it ends.

Ten seconds of writing here saves a dispute with a customer holding your offer on their phone.

A checklist

  • Who it applies to — everyone, new customers, members.
  • Which days and times.
  • What is excluded — set menus, sale items, other offers.
  • Whether it combines with anything else.
  • When it ends.

A worked example

“15% off your total bill, Monday to Thursday, 12pm–5pm. Dine-in only. Not valid on set menus or with other offers. Until 31 March.”

Every condition you leave out is one you will argue about at the counter.
