A repeating event counts as one event, not one per occurrence, so a weekly class is a single entry against your limit.
Repeating events count once
A weekly class running all year is one event against your allowance, not fifty-two. Use Repeat rather than creating an event per week — it is easier to manage and far cheaper against the limit.
Past events do not free up a slot, so delete finished one-off events if you are near the limit.
